A leaderboard is the site turning your tips into a race. Top tipper this hour, top model this month, a contest with a prize pool that may be real money for performers and a badge for you. Viewers get pulled in because a number with their name on it is harder to ignore than a menu. The prize for viewers is often smaller than the detour. Read it before you tip differently than you planned.
You will see these on Stripchat, Chaturbate, and BongaCams whenever the lobby has a banner. A banner is not a discount. Holiday weeks stack contests on top of costumes. A battle inside one room is the smaller version. A leaderboard is the same urge across the whole site.
What you might actually win
Points, a color, a few bonus tokens, or nothing but rank. Models may be competing for promotion or a payout from the site. That prize is theirs. Your participation is the tips you were going to send anyway, or it is extra spend the contest invented. If the prize is points, convert them before you care. Bonus tokens with strings are still strings. Read the expiry.
Do not believe a chat user who says they can boost your place if you tip them or click away. That is a scam wearing a contest. The site’s own banner is the only leaderboard that counts, and it still may not be worth entering.
How it changes a room
Models chase the metric the contest measures. If the contest counts public tips, the public show gets louder and privates wait. If it counts new followers, you will be asked to follow more than usual. A follow is fine. A follow you do not want, repeated every minute, is noise. Follow only if you meant to. You do not owe a contest your heart button.
Your budget does not know there is a race. Keep the number. If the only reason for the next tip is a rank you will not remember tomorrow, skip it. A small planned tip still fits. A chase does not.
Ignore the board and watch the show
You can close the contest panel. The room still works. Preview the actual menu, then decide. If the whole site feels like a scoreboard, a hangout or a private-led site such as LiveJasmin is less interested in your rank. Ranks are optional. The show you came for should not be.
A contest that is actually about the model
Some boards rank models, not viewers. Your tip still counts toward their placement, which is fine if you were going to tip that show anyway and pointless if you moved your whole night onto a stranger because a banner said they were “close”. Check whether you like the room with the banner hidden. If you would leave, leave. Being close on a leaderboard is their job incentive, not your emergency.
After the contest ends, the boost disappears and the room goes back to its normal size. If you followed ten people during the race, prune them the next day using the favorites habit. A contest should not permanently rewrite who you watch.
One more check before you tip for placement: look at the prize. If the prize is site-wide fame and you do not care whether this model wins it, your tokens are a donation to a scoreboard. Donations are allowed. Accidental donations are how a contest empties a token balance you meant to spend on a private later in the week. Name the prize out loud. If you would not pay that price for that prize on a quiet Tuesday, do not pay it because a timer is red.
