Every live cam site looks different on the first screen, but almost all of them run on the same three parts: a public room anyone can watch, a paid private where the performer works for one viewer, and a currency that sits between the two. Once you can see those parts, you can read any lobby in a minute.
The public room
The public room is the shop window. A performer is live, the chat is open, and viewers can watch for free. On token sites such as Chaturbate, Stripchat and CAM4, the public room is where most of the show happens: the performer sets goals, viewers tip, and the show moves when the goal is hit. On premium desks such as LiveJasmin, the public room is shorter and mostly exists to sell the private.
The private
A private is a show for one viewer, billed by the minute. Some sites add variants: a group show split between several viewers, a spy mode where you watch someone else’s private at a lower rate, or a fully exclusive private nobody can peek into. We explain those in our guide to spy shows and group shows.
The currency
You rarely pay in dollars directly. You buy tokens or credits, and the room prices everything in that unit. That layer makes tipping fast, and it also makes prices harder to compare. Read tokens vs credits vs per-minute before you buy your first pack.
Where random chat fits
Random-video sites such as Sexymeet.tv and next-button cams such as SlutRoulette skip the lobby. You press a button and get matched. That is a different product, and we compare it in random video chat vs cam sites.
The short version
- Public room: free to watch, paid to steer.
- Private: billed per minute, read the rate on the performer.
- Currency: tokens or credits, check the real price per unit.
