You do not need a studio to start camming, but good basics make a big difference to income. Here is what matters most.
Camera
A good HD webcam is enough to start. Many models later move to a mirrorless camera with a capture card for a sharper picture.
Lighting
Light matters more than the camera. A ring light or two soft lights in front of you, with no strong light behind you, makes any camera look better.
Sound
A simple USB or clip-on microphone beats the built-in one. Viewers stay longer when they can hear you clearly.
Internet
Upload speed is what counts. Use a wired connection if you can, and test it before your first show.
Computer and software
A reasonably modern computer runs most cam sites in the browser. Many models use free broadcasting software for scenes and overlays.
Space and privacy
A tidy, lockable space with nothing personal in the background. Read protecting performers’ privacy.
Toys
Interactive toys are popular with viewers; see interactive toys.
